Consolidation Programs

HML is currently offering cross-dock consolidation and deconsolidation programs for Humboldt-area shippers who are currently using the Port of Oakland for international export or import. The HML CD-C and CD-D programs allow for shippers to import or export containerized cargo through the Port of Oakland via our partner company’s cross dock, located just outside port terminals on the over-weight loop of the port corridor. This program is very beneficial to those shippers who are forced to ship more containers then necessary, because their cargo weights trucks above U.S. highway weight restrictions while being delivered to or from the port. The cross dock is not subject to weight restrictions; a container can be loaded to its max specification and be delivered to the port.
Additional benefits to this program include the ability to transport freight to and from the port in trailers, and the increased accessibility to containers for exporting.
Trailering increases the volume of freight shipped since trailers are lighter weight and can be loaded with more freight for highway delivery than containers. Trailering increases shipper flexibility by avoiding container free time concerns. Trailering also typically decreases costs by allowing for back-haul opportunities, avoiding costly and wasteful deadheading.
Maneuvers called street-turns allow for diverting un-booked containers in cross dock possession to bookings in need of containers, which allows our partner to divert containers to shipper bookings if steamship companies are unable to provide containers.
HML Cross-Dock Consolidation (CD-C) Program
The HML CD-C program consists of receiving trailers of freight at the cross dock, transloading that freight into containers, and then handling the drayage of those containers to intended port terminals for export. This is especially beneficial to shippers who aren’t able to cube out or stuff their containers full due to highway weight restrictions. Maximizing container volumes into consolidated over-highway-weight containers can be done at the cross dock while transloading. This reduces the number of exported containers, increasing shipment efficiency by reducing export costs and reducing required steamship capacity.
HML Cross-Dock Deconsolidation (CD-D) Program
The HML CD-D program works in the opposite of the CD-C program. Containers are picked up at port terminals, delivered to the cross dock, opened up, and then transloaded to trailers for delivery to final destinations. This is especially beneficial to shippers who can import containers that would exceed U.S. highway weight restrictions. Imported container numbers can be reduced by maximizing container volumes. The over-highway-weight containers are deconsolidated at the cross dock into highway legal trailers.
There is a minimum volume requirement for this program, please call for details.
